OT: Cookies handling in various browsers - IE best!

Do browsers handle cookies differently?

The subject says it all.

The cookies are still present (and correct AFAIKT vis-a-vis the expiry
dates), for my online banking for example. However, when I try to
login after about a 1-2 weeks' gap, it is as if I am a new customer
and have to enter all my 'new customer' info again.

This does not happen in IE, I can always login to my bank no matter
how long between tries. With FF I must do it at least weekly. Web
based mail services are similarly affected.

This only happens if logins are a (variable) time apart. For my bank
it's between 1-2 weeks.

Browsers handle cookies based upon the settings you use, including Firefox.
I have no problem with FF and cookies.

Each cookie has an expiry date. Who knows whether IE honours it?

in one of my profiles, i have "permanent" cookies. but i don't know if those permanent
cookies are necessary. cookies are usually necessary to maintain logon status on bulletin
boards. i can't recall any other purpose from user's point of view.

but i've never had trouble with cookies doing as i want in any browser (seamonkey, opera,
etc)

doing any finance online is risky, since (judging from too-frequent news stories) the
financial services have enough security problems *without* online complications.
