Just a quick question. It's ok us recommending all this top of the range stuff for you, but what are you actually going to be using it for, as the specs so far are pretty high flying for your first system build. ;)

well, i play stupidly large amount of games, i also use alot of art utilitys, ie photoshop and 3ds max, and other programs.

i bought the pc i am using now from dell, i got it 3 years ago and cant play nearly any new games, i have a shitty geforce4mx420 that makes graphics look like somthing out of a game boy when every one ealse is on dazzeling computers.

i want i high running machine that i can get the top end out of it now and carry on upgrading along the way, i dont want to be stuck three years from now only being able to play tetris on my rigg when every one ealse is on wow2... ( i am on wow as it is... but only just) i want to play games with stunning graphics and perfect speed and not having to make do... that answer it all :p

-=Please be careful of your use of language - this is a public forum=-

If thats the case, then your choice of rig is very respectable, and should provide you with a moderate amount of futureproofing, whilst giving you some of the best performance available at the moment.

Now that Intel has gone 64bit in its 6xx series, they may be worth a look at, instead of the AMD, but this option again will cost you more money and will mean a different motherboard.....just an option to think about. :)

I agree with PSD99, when everything goes a floppy saves you, plus it will fill that empty 3.5" gap. Then again you could fill it with an LCD display or a FAN/CC control. Not neccesary but always cool to have. And I forget is RAID 0 striping or mirroring. Well I have to assume stipping and I'd say go with a smaller drive than you had originally choosen but quite as small as 74GB. Yea you may lose a lil preformance, but hey I got like 40GB in ripped DVDs alone. So its a matter if your a pack rat or do you keep a super clean system. Otherwise, sounds like your system is gonna smoke. Goodluck with the build.

I'm particularly looking forward to seeing your Akasa Eclipse case, they look really good. Would you like to do a small mini review of it for the user reviews section of the forum? I would really like to see how everything fits into it!!

To settle this squabble once and for all ;)

Kebra wants to use a RAID 0 setup.

At the moment, with Win XP, there is no other way to install RAID drivers during setup apart from hitting F6 at the prompt and letting XP load them from a floppy disk.

i am not sure wether or not to stick with this g-card -

Gigabyte GeForce 6800 GT 256MB DDR3 TV-Out/Dual DVI (PCI-Express) - Retail £264.32

and go with some thing like -

BFG GeForce 6800 Ultra OC 256MB DDR3 TV-Out/Dual DVI (PCI-Express) - Retail £387.69

( this is also because my parents are now giving me half for the g-card :O and buying this pc for £200!)

and once my hand heals i can get a job, save for a water cooler and look at attempting to use sli lol...

* question * - will my 420w psu power it all - and my cathodes and the what not? ( also getting Coolermaster Musketeer System Dynamics Detector - Dark Grey just to look good lol.) or will i need a higher psu?

I'd say you're right on your limit with that PSU, try and stretch to the 480W Tagan, it's a goodie :)

And talking of goodies, the BFG card you mentioned is a corker :thumb:

What did you do to your hand then?

i fell down the stairs catching my hand on a radiator bracket, i sliced open my hand from the tip of my finger to the middle of my hand cutting the didgyflexa-tendon (somthing like that) in my little finger in two places, i had to have sergury straight away and now i have to wait three months before its better, i will send a link to a site of pics when i can be bothered taking some lol, its not for the faint of heart though.
