Order of start up

Hi!
How can I change the order of programmes that start automatically?
In particular, the virus/spam progs. should stat first
They (McAfee) are last, after I have connected to the internet.
There is often a delay of several seconds.

Hi George:

The matter of when security software (e.g., anti-virus, anti-spyware,
firewall) actually starts seems to be widely misunderstood.

To be effective, security software has to start very early in the boot
process. At this point there is no desktop, so the program's user
interface isn't needed. To save time, the guts of the software, that
which actually provides the security, loads early on and the user
interface loads later, after the desktop has loaded.

Anti-spam software won't be needed until the user opens her mail client,
which won't happen until the desktop appears.
