Opening TIFF images

Opening TIF images in Windows XP that were scanned using
the "newer" HP desktop scanners in JPEG compression. The
issue -- they won't open. We've tried "opening with" Kodak
Imaging, Windows Imaging/Fax Preview (default for XP) and
Adobe. In the end (after all the testing and changes) the
underlying problem is that the compression type is not
supported. These same images open fine on Windows 2000
PC's and other images that were scanned in black and white
with Fax compression open fine on Windows XP. Is there
anything we can do? Please help!

See if this free software can open one of your TIF files:
www.irfanview.com
If it can, I would use it to convert the TIF files to JPG and then convert
them again back to TIF using the same software and see if XP will open it
this new TIF file. If this works, you can then use the same software to
batch convert all your TIF files to JPG files and then back again to TIF.
Converting them to JPG will result in a slight degradation of the image, but
if these are high resolution images you will probably not see the
difference.

Maybe the following KB article will shed some light:
