When I double click the Excel icon on the desktop in order to open Excel
2002, it takes aboute 25 minutes to open the program.
Can somebody tell me how to solve this problem?

First of all make sure the desktop shortcut is right : using Windows
Explorer, navigate through C:\program files\Microsoft Office\Office10, and
double-click Excel.exe. Is it better?

If that's better, then create a shortcut and copy it on your desktop.
Problem solved.

If that's not better, once Excel is started, go in the Tools / Addins menu,
and uncheck everything. Restart.

Could also be worth checking if your Anti-Virus software is playing up.

While you are getting the long 25 minute waits, what is actually happening

Try deleting a file called Excel.xlb...may be hidden. This is a
customisation file for the toolbars and often gets corrupted. Excel will
make a new one when it cannot find an existing one
