opening attachments

I have just up graded internet explorer to 6.0 and when I
try and open certain attchments with .eml or .pdf
extensions I am unable to do so. This did not happen
before. I am using Windows 98. Any suggestions welcomed.

I assume you mean in OE6

Tools menu > Options > Security tab
Uncheck "Do not allow attachments...."
(Assuming you really want to disable this security feature)
