OpenGl + Radeon9500 = Crash/Reboot

Hi,

This has happened to me recently while playing Kotor, things were
going ok, until I tried different catalyst drivers (3.7-3.10) and things
got worse over a period of time.

Until recently I followed a rage3d forum thread, got cat remover
and driver cleaner 2(from driver heaven) and removed every single
ATI things from my system, rebooted, re-installed Cat 3.10 and
every single opengl application crash including Kotor, CoD, etc.

I don't know what to do anymore, for example, I have this screen
saver called voodoo lights, if I run the thing in D3d, no problem, in
open gl, immediate reboot.

Anyone else having this type of problem ?

Thanks,
Trunk

I had a similar once due to RAM errors. Try:
http://Memtest86.com
Experiment with BIOS memory settings. Re-seat card and RAM. To see if card
overheating problem, try underclocking GPU.

no dice, still reboots... I think this has to do with the opengl.dll itself,
maybe
it is out of sync with the rest of drivers... I have no idea anymore...

Try running any OpenGL in 16 bpp color, and see if that helps.

I did, and same problem, it happened to be a problem with the
card itself (maybe fried chip) I replaced it temporarily with an
nvidia card and applications started working again, I am sending
the ATI card back to Canada for repair, hopefully it will get fixed
soon. I tried different hardware setup, and no go, until I decided just
to take the card out and try with a diff. one.

Just FYI, I fixed this problem, I got the ATI card back, and it was
still having problems, so I upgraded to a 400W PSU and things
are working again, though I have cold boot problems, which could
point to my motherboard.

Well atleast the card works nicely! With nowadays systems you need a
good PSU, you'll find it out yourself!

Aye, though I never thought 300W would not be enough :)
It musta been a faulty 300W, I think with my current one
if I add another 200W, it can also be a powerful microwave =)
