slightly OT: Extreme AX800XT/2DT - PCI Express & ASUS SmartDoctor II

Good Morning,

I'm thinking of purchasing a new graphics card and the Extreme
AX800XT/2DT is a likely candidate.

However whilst reading some reviews on this card I noticed that it was
mentioned that the computer system the card was installed on would fail
to boot if the Smart Doctor Utility was installed..

Since the features offered by Smartdoctor is one of the cards big
selling points to me I wish to confirm that they do infact work with
the PCI Express graphics cards.

For your convenience I will now include the paragraph from the review:

Does Anybody know if this issue has been fixed yet ? I tried contacting
ASUS however I'm getting no replies.

Kind Regards,

Andy.

Software and Overclocking
One of the great things about Asus branded cards is that while they are
a bit more expensive compared to their competition, almost all of their
modern cards include support for the Asus Smartdoctor software suite.
Smartdoctor is an incredibly useful utility which allows users to
modify their fan RPM speeds (thus controlling overclocking potential or
noise level, depending on preference), and allows for an incredibly
thorough analysis level of the card's voltage and temperature levels.
Smartdoctor also allows for on-the-fly overclocking, and is not as
limited as other manufacturer supplied overclocking utilities.
The problem is, Smartdoctor does not work with the AX800 X800 XT PCIe
card, at least not yet. Using the ATI Catalyst 3.8 driver set and
Windows XP SP2, installing SmartDoctor on our system caused our system
to crash, reboot, and eventually turn into an infinite blue-screen
looping/rebooting scenario. Even when installing the card with the
custom Asus driver set still caused this loop. This was verified after
numerous fresh Windows XP installs, using various sets of drivers and
various versions of the Smartdoctor software suite. Every time we tried
to install SmartDoctor with this card, the system will crash and burn,
which as you'll imagine, is very frustrating. This, unfortunately,
locks us out of the fan-speed control options of the card. Our
suggestion - if you purchase on of these cards, do NOT install the
SmartDoctor utilities until Asus issues a new version of the software
or a workaround for this problem. The card does work perfectly fine and
is 100% stable with the ATI Catalyst drivers, as long as the Asus
utilities are not installed.

Andy,

IMHO this is an open and shut case. Do as it says and don't install the
Smart Doctor.

Asus is not too shoddy in updating its utility software. Just hand in there
and monitor the Asus download site.
