Open Exclusive by Another User problem

Hi there,
I have three users who cannot access a split database from their shortcut.
Error message reads: "The Microsoft Jet database engine cannot open the file
Z:\SalesDatabase\BE Data\ChchSales_BE.mdb. It is already opened exclusively
by another user, or you need permission to view its data." I can still
access the database from my shortcut as can one other user. The FE and BE
are not set to exclusive. This database has an FE autoupdater that used to
work for these people.

Any ideas much appreciated.

Hi Jo,

A couple of things to check. First, with everyone out of the database,
including you, use Windows Explorer to navigate to the shared folder
Z:\SalesDatabase\BE Data. Do you see a 1 KB file named ChchSales_BE.ldb? If
so, delete it. Second, verify that each user has full privileges (RWCD) on
the shared folder. A simple test for this involves using NotePad, from each
user's PC logged on as that user. See if you can create and edit a text file
that is saved to the shared folder, and that you can delete this text file.
Here is more information on the topic of locking database files:

Note: You may need to configure Windows Explorer to prevent hiding file
extensions for known file types. From Windows Explorer, click on Tools >
Folder Options... and select the View tab to set this property. You can also
click on View > Details, so that you can see detailed information about all
files in the folder, instead of just a silly icon.

Wonderful, thank you Tom. I suspected it was the permissions. Unfortunately
my IT administrator must have been too busy yesterday to check it out
thoroughly and overlooked something.
