I cannot open an Access Database exclusively

I need to make an Access database exclusive. I have selected "Exclusive"
under the "Default Open Mode" under the "Advanced" tab in "Options"
(Tools->Options). I can open the database exclusively using the "Open"
dialog box in Access but I cannot open exclusively when using a shortcut or
opening through Windows Explorer. I have even tried adding the "/excl"
command line to the shortcut path. Any ideas?

if you can open up the database exclusively via the 'open' dialog box
in access ... why not just do it that way? my guess is that your
database has some sort of stuff written in it that doesn't allow it to
be open up exclusively .. either that or someone else is in it the same
time you are trying to open it up ... that's my guess anyway .. but
again, i'd say if you can open it up exclusively, then you have no
problem to be worried about a lot.

Thanks for the info. We have multiple users accessing this database and so
it's located on a server. Currently everyone uses a shortcut to access the
database and when doing it this way, it's not opening exclusively. I also
have it set up with a start up menu, hidden database window, etc. in order
simplify the database (for non-Access users) so would rather not have people
open Access then open the database. Basically, it would be very helpful to
have it open exclusively via a shortcut. Any more feedback would be
appreciated. Thanks.
