open 2000 files with 2003

We are networking between 2 computers. Some files were created on Comp1 with
Excel 2000 and I'm trying to open and edit them on Comp2 with Excel 2003.
How do I do this? I can view the file name, but it just doesn't open

It's the same file format so it shouldn't be any problems. Did you use
file>open from within Excel or are you
using windows explorer (clicking on the files)?

I was using explorer (clicking) but if I go into the open box it works. Why
can't I click on my desktop shortcuts?

Try the usual fix for this.

Tools>Options>General Uncheck "Ignore Other Applications"

If no joy with that................

Close Excel first and On the Windows Taskbar

1) Start>Run "excel.exe /unregserver"(no quotes)>OK.
2) Start>Run "excel.exe /regserver"(no quotes)>OK.

See the space between exe and /regserver

You might have to designate a full path to excel.exe.

In that case Start>Run "C:\your path to\excel.exe" /regserver(quotes
required)>OK.

Try either of these

tools>options>general and deselect (if checked) "ignore other applications"

or

1. Close Microsoft Excel.

2. Click Start, and then click Run.

3. In the Open box, type the following (with the quotation marks):

"C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office\Excel.exe" /unregserver

NOTE: If you have installed Microsoft Office to another location, use your
correct path for Excel.exe instead.

4. Click Start, and then click Run.

5. In the Open box, type the following (with the quotation marks):

"C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office\Excel.exe" /regserver
