One more try. XP Setup and Safemode Problem

M

Mickey

I was trying to repair my OEM copy of XP and upon reboot,
the system boots up to Safe Mode. A message appears
saying "Windows XP Setup cannot run under Safemode. Setup
will restart now. Of course, it then just reboots to the
same thing. I cannot get back either to Safe Mode or
normal bootup because of this. I then booted from the
floppy and went through the setup procedure again and
selected repair. It started copying files and then booted
into Safe Mode.

I am about ready to load XP (and all my applications) from
scratch and forget all the great things MS has said about
XP. This wouldn't have happened with Win 2K.

Mickey,

The right way to run Repair Install is from the CD directly. Go into your
BIOS and choose "boot from CD" as your first selection. Then boot from CD
and choose Repair Install.

Hi Len,

Thanks for the response. I did this both from when XP was
still running and then from the CD and chose the repair
option. I am now in an endless loop of rebooting and going
into Safe Mode where I get the message "Windows XP Setup
cannot run under Safemode. Setup will reboot now."

Why is it going into Safe Mode?

Thanks again,

Mickey

Mickey,

I've only one idea. While in Safe Mode, go to Display Properties, Settings
tab, Advanced and set the video Adapter tab (under Properties) as standard
VGA.

If some incompatibility (driver) on your video card is killing your ability
to run Repair Install properly, "perhaps" this might resolve it.
