old system forgotten password...

i have a nice new system that i've been using for several months now. the
old system was set up downstairs and forgotten. son, 12, decided he wants to
use it but we cannot get into system. there was a password (which i don't
remember) upon startup.
not the windows password that you can miss multiple times and still get
running, but the system startup password that without, you hit a brick wall.

what can i do to get past this password. cannot even F2 to get into setup
without the password.

help!

Check the documentation that came with your computer or its
motherboard. There is usually a jumper on the motherboard that
needs to be moved to erase the password.

Good luck

Pull the battery on the motherboard for about 5 seconds. It round, about
the size of a nickel.

Yes, except that five seconds is usually not even close to long
enough. It depends on the computer, but it's usually at least a few
minutes, and sometimes as much as an hour or more.
