Actually I don´t care. But it is a shortcut as those I use in my Win98. If
you want to goto that mode you´ll have to find a correct one. I´m running
programs in Compability mode myself.

Why you can't see the compatibility pull-down menu, I don't know. but
this is my second Win2K Pro. PC and that I have it on and verified it
on a WinXP Pro. PC. Dis you try Pre's suggestion of executing;
regsvr32 %windir%\AppPatch\slayerui.dll ???

Ok, after running the command above I now have the compatibility option tab
for my shortcuts. I guess I didn't understand before, that running this
command was necessary to enable the option. Now I just need to figure out
if it's going to help my device driver problem.

back to the TOPIC at hand - Win2K and WinXP certainly do have a Win95
compatibility moder for Win32 executables. there is NO compatibility
mode for DOS executables and there are different types of ShortCuts
and that is why I specifically stated LNK file.

This tread is starting to give me a headache; very confusing. I could
swear the OP originally asked about compatibility mode for a DOS program.
Maybe it's time to call it quits for today and go have a beer. :)

Quote of facts:
---------------------------
now if you create a shortcut to your program it will have a
compatibilty tab that allows it to "think" its running in 95/98
or NT4 not sure if it helps but try anyway.

well, all the help is appreciated, but not leading to a real solution.
what I have done now, is that I changed the setting the setting "Idle
sensitivity" on the Misc tab of the properties, from the middle to High.
this results in a processor running between approx. 25 - 50%
and that is good enough for me.
if there are any other suggestions, though, I will still be gratelfull
thnks
