OL2003 - Issue saving tasks and managing objects within them

I have a client who is experiencing a few issues with Outlook 2003 on an XP
SP2 box:

- Can't open multiple Tasks and have icons for attached e-mails (objects) be
operable above a certain limited number (they turn into a generic "flying
Windows" icon)
- Can't click and drag or cut and paste icons for attached e-mails (objects)
and have them be operable after the fact
- Can't open an attached e-mail (object) within a task, close it, and then
be able to re-open it without first having to make a change to the Task, save
the Task and then re-open it.

Note that this issue appears to be limited to e-mail objects only and does
not appear to affect other Office-type documents (.DOC, .XLS, .PPT) or .PDFs.

Have applied all apparently relevant patches and installation is Outlook
post SP2.

Any help much appreciated.

Is the client using a .PST file? If so, try running the Inbox Repair Tool
against it to see if it finds any errors. Search the client's drive for a
file called scanpst.exe and run it. Allow the program to make a backup of
the file before it makes any changes.

We have Exchange servers, so unfortunately not. This user's Outlook has gone
through Detect and Repair, Outlook profile recreated. It's almost as if
there's a stack or heap that Outlook is exhausting in trying to manage all of
the mail objects this user places into his tasks.

Are you aware of any patches regarding this kind of issue on OL 2003?

Thank you for your reply, Jocelyn.

Unfortunately Exchange is not my forte...but maybe we can narrow things down
a bit further. Is the client using cached Exchange mode?

No, it isn't - interested in knowing why this may be of concern? I'm
certainly learning something here!

Just wondering if it was possible that the offline cache was corrupt.

At this point you may want to repost your message and include any additional
details or things we have ruled out in this thread...perhaps someone more
familiar with Exchange can help. Good luck.
