OL03 Default Mail Client

I have already tried to solve this problem in the IE newsgroup, and they
sent me over here.

I use OL 2003 and IE 7.0.5730.13. When I am in IE and click on an email
address on a website to send an email message to, I get the following
Windows Internet Explorer error message.
"Could not perform this operation because default mail client is not
properly installed."

In IE, when I click Tools/Internet Options/Programs, I see "Microsoft Office
Outlook" in the field for Email.

I have also gone into the Registry and deleted the Outlook subkey and done a
"detect and repair" afterward. It said that it finished successfully. But
I still get the error message.
I should also tell you that I do have the following installed on my
computer.
Windows Live installer
Windows Live Messenger
Windows Live Sign-in Assistant

But, I do NOT find in my "Add and Remove Programs" list a listing for
"Windows Live Mail".

I mention the preceeding because I was told (by the kind folks at the IE
newsgroup) that Windows Live Mail conflicts with OL to be the Default Mail
Client, and that I need to uninstall "Windows Live Mail".

I now regret installing anything to do with Windows Live. I thought it was
MSN Messenger at the time, which I like to use for Webcam. The reason is
because of the similar icon for the two. I would be glad to uninstall
anything I have installed, but do not know how to uninstall Windows Live
Mail, if I cannot see it listed.

Can anyone here help me get this rectified?
Thank you in advance,
Bob

Additional info: I forgot to mention that I am using Windows XP MCE with
SP2 installed. Thanks in advance to anyone who can help me.
