OL 2003 email is auto deleting when i read it. why? how do i stop

I am using Outlook 2003. When i highlight my email it is auto deleting Why?
How do i stop it? I am viewing my email using preview pane.

Doubtful.
They messages are not being deleted.
Most likely you have your view set to show Unread messages only.
