óHKDSK runs for 20 min every startup. How to prevent?

Hello,

Once I had to turn down my freezed XP in a brutal way simply by taking
battery out (notebook).
Then on startup CHKDSK checked the disks (C and E) and XP was up again
alright.
But the problem is that now every time I turn the system up it's the CHKDSK
that comes up and starts checking
for 20 min (stage 1 then 2 then 3.....) the disk E (not C) and only after XP
is allowed to go on with startup.

(I leave chkdsk to run till it finishes )

What should I do? How to configure this CHKDSK not to start everytime?

Thank you

Have you consdered that if chkdsk is finding it necessary to run every time,
perhaps that's a sign that a disk problem is being detected?

Also, try googling "chkdsk runs every boot", which will lead you to things
like this...

http://www.pcreview.co.uk/forums/thread-72388.php

"I was having this problem until today. I used this simple fix. It might
help you.

1. click on your start menu and open the run dialog.
2. type "cmd" and return (note: dont enter quotes)
3. Next type "fsutil dirty query e:"
4. If the return message indicates that the volume is dirty go to step 5
5. Next type "chkdsk e: /f /x"
6. After that finshes repeat step 3.
7. If it is no longer dirty then reboot and you should notice no more
ckdisk.

If this process doesn't work check out Kelly's site, listed by a
previous response earlier today."

Well, yes as you say the reason for chkdsk running at every boot may be
error on the disk. But when I manage cancel it before it starts Everything
seems to be Ok

ANy way Ill follo your advice

Just because things seem ok does not mean they are, test the hard drive
using the drive mfg's diagnostic utility downloadable from their website.
