Offline Files and Read-Only documents

Not sure whether this is the place to post!
I have a laptop and a desktop. I use Offline files on the laptop to
synchronise my document data store with the desktop.
When the desktop is not turned on, all the Offline files on the laptop are
Read-Only. I thought that the idea of Offline files was that I could edit
them and then when I connect to the desktop they would then be synchronised?
is there a setting somewhere I've missed?

How are you accessing the offline files? You should use the same path as you
used when you were opening them from the desktop. Don't try to open them
from the offline files cache directly.

I don't - what I did was to point the My Documents folder on the laptop at
the My Documents folder on the desktop, and made the files available
off-line...

I notice that if I remove Offline files and open a document from the
desktop, it's STILL read only, even though my user has full access rights to
that folder - is this a problem with a peer-to-peer network, rather than
files on a server proper?

Not sure what to tell you - I loathe and abhor offline files for many
reasons. You might try SecondCopy (www.centered.com) - it's what I use for
all my domain laptops, instead of offline files. It's a lot nicer in that it
doesn't matter if the source path/computer changes, etc - the destination
files are still accessible. There are other options (synctoy, briefcase,
even robocopy) but I like secondcopy best. Sorry I can't be of more
assistance.
