Odd XP error that will not let me update windows

I get a weird error message I get when trying to update
windows. The error message is this one - "The software
you are installing has not passed windows logo testing to
verify its compatibility with Windows XP". This message
only appears when I am either trying to install updates
(from windowsupdate.com - or whatever the windows update
site is) or trying to install any new version of media
player. I think the problem may lie in Media Player 10
beta, since I can only recall these update errors
happening after I loaded MP 10. However, Windows would
not let me uninstall Media Player (essentially do a
version roll-back). This is where I am.about to reinstall
windows and start over.

Instead of re-installing why not go to a restore point
earlier than where you install newer version of program?

Hi

Try a System Restore back to a point before you installed the Beta version
of WMP 10 - if the checkpoints go back that far.
