{Odd Setup} BIS / Outlook2k3 / Unbolding emails...

I've got a most curious goal and I'm hoping someone has some creative
ideas.

User has a Blackberry that uses the Blackberry Internet Service. This
is an external service that can POP any email server, download mail
and send it to the Blackberry. About two weeks ago, I migrated User
fully to Exchange. Previously, he was POP to the Exchange server only.
No Exchange. He wanted to do Out of Office and I knew that we had been
moving other users to Exchange, so I moved him. He could do Out of
Office.

Problem came up. When the BIS POPs the server, Exchange "detects" that
the messages sent to Exchange have been "Read." So, in Outlook they
show up as Read (i.e. NOT BOLD). This annoyed the User, so I just put
him back on POP only.

But I'd like to give him access to Exchange features like the Global
Address List, Shared Calendars, and the like. If I set up the Exchange
server as a separate account in Outlook and set the mails to download
to either the PST file or his Exchange mailbox, that has the effect of
downloading messages TWICE. Once from Exchange and again from POP.
Sure, the POPped messages stay bold, but you wind up with duplicates.

I almost need a way to stop Exchange's movement of mail into Outlook
somehow and have his only conduit to mail in Outlook be the POP
connection.

The only other thing I can think of to do that would work here is to
setup a separate email address in Exchange. Forward copies of mails to
the new address (delivered both places), POP THAT account, and set
Reply To: to his real Exchange address.

What do _you_ think? Take your time. ;-)

Cheers,

Mike...

Your best option would be to establish an internal Blackberry Enterprise
Server (BES) & then remove the POP3/IMAP access to Exchange.
