odd problem - can't get rid of email header

I created a business form using WORD 2000. It has fill-out fields and
check-boxes. My clients fill it out and return to me via email. The form is
protected so the user can only write in defined fields.

A couple of months ago, I received a completed form from one of my clients
and when I opened it in WORD, an email header appeared at the top of the
page. Although I don't use Outlook, I recall this is exactly the way a new
message looks in Outlook when WORD is set as the email editor. I tried
unsuccessfully to turn off the header, but since printing the form wasn't a
problem, I just shrugged my shoulders and moved on.

Then today, I received another completed form from same client, and lo and
behold, there was that darn email header again! I thought, "what the heck is
going on here?!"

This time, I searched WORD Help and the Internet but found nothing that
would explain how to turn off the email header. Incidentally, there's a "New
E-Mail Message" icon on my toolbar, but it's grayed out and I can't figure
out why. Turning off the document protection mad no difference. That icon has
always been grayed out.

Any ideas what could be causing this?

The e-mail header is a toggle setting - File > Send To > Email recipient.

Unless I'm not following you, this doesn't help. When I go to File > Send To,
the only choice similar to that is Send To > Mail Recipient (As Attachement)

and that option is not a toggle. It just opens up a new message in the
default email program with the document pre-attached.

Hmmm. I suspect the command may not be available unless you set Outlook as
your email application.

I don't think that's the answer. I use OE as my mail client, and I have File
| Send To | Mail Recipient, Mail Recipient (for Review), and Mail Recipient
(as Attachment), and my Email button is always enabled.

Yes, that took care of it. It wasn't the Win.ini file in my case. It was that
I have Thunderbird set as my default email client. I changed to OE, and the
toggle you mentioned in your first response removed the header. I guess my
client must have saved the file with email header toggled on.
Thanks,
David
