ODBC link to SYBASE very slow

I am linking SYBASE tables to Access 2000 using ODBC 'Sybase System 11'
driver (version 3.11.00.01). The connection is ridiculously slow, when
linking the tables or retrieving data. It seems to work fine with MS SQL
servers. Any suggestions?
