object bound to table 'Contacts' is open or...

I downloaded the Contacts management template. When I go to the "Design
View" to add columns to this database I get a message that says:

"Either an object bound to table 'Contacts' is open or another user has the
table open. Do you ant to open the talbe as read-only?"

This is a bogus error. I'm using this in a single user mode. This Contact
Management database is ONLY opened by me. NO other table is opened NOR is
anything bound to anything. Nothing is opened except this Contacts
Management database.

Why am I getting this error that prevents me from adding columns and how do
I get it to let me enter the "Design View?"
