O2003+SBS: Automatic formatting in views of public folders

G

Guest

I'd like to use automatic formatting (by categories) in the views of a public
folder and all of his subfolders. But only by setting up the formatting rules
ONCE.
Also the other clients on the network should view these public folders
automaticly with the same formatting.

Is it possible to do this? (shared categories and formatting rules or
something?)

Thanks in advance for the reply

Since automatic formatting is part of a view's settings, creating a new named view "on this folder visible to everyone" should do the trick.

Thanks very much for the fast reply!

But this is something I've already tried, and the named view is only visible
for the different users on the computer where the view was actually created
and not over the entire network.

Another thing is that, if you choose a view to be 'on this folder visible to
everyone' it's the ONLY folder where it's visible. In my case, I have a few
hundered folders who all should have the same custom view, formatted by
category, so it's far too much work to define the same view hunderds of times
and this on all the workstations.

Do you have Owner permission on the folder?

You can copy views using the Folder | Copy Folder Design command, but it's still going to be a manual process. In 20-20 hindsight, what you'd want to do is create the folder and all its views first, then use that master folder as a template, copying it to make new folders with the same views.

Thanks, you made me discover the 'Copy Folder Design' command!
But when I try this it has no result. The copy happens but when I switch to
the map it is copied to the custom view is not added to the list of views I
can choose from. Is there something I do wrong?

Furthermore, it seems that it's gonna be a long, manual process that I'll
have to repeat on all workstations. And what when there's a need for a new
category? Do I have to start the whole procedure over again?

Maybe the view you had in mind was not created with the "on this folder visible to everyone" scope. If so, then it was not part of the folder design that can be copied.
