NTVDM errors-also no disk space

Two different errors... don't know if they are related. PC is Syntax all in
one with VIA C3 800mhz CPU/256mb DDR RAM/20gb HD. Partitioned 1st 12gb (NTFS)
for W2000, 2nd 2gb (FAT 32) for files, 3rd unpartitioned for Linux. Install
went fine. I don't think this disk has any service packs. Had some trouble
with modem but finally got that. (Odd, have installed this modem in 3-4 other
PC's...no problem).
1st error came when trying to load Acrobat reader "NTVDM.exe has gen
errors/windows will be shut down". MS KB article addresses this but gives no
workaround.
2nd error on loading MS Works (59mb) "There is not enough disk space".
Immediately installed Corel office suite at 179mb with NO problems.
Which service packs are recommended? Any ideas about this problem? I
upgraded because W2k was supposed to be very stable.
thanks for any help!

* You might ask them in works.win on this one.

| Which service packs are recommended?
* SP4 and at least these two before connecting to any network.

* Upgrades are seldom stable.
