There is not enough memory or disk space to complete the operation

Whever I try to paste from a web site to Word (even just a couple of words),
I either get the message "There is not enough memory or disk space to
complete the operation" or it pastes it as all Times New Roman font size 10
and loses all formatting.

However I can copy any amount of formatted text from one Word document to
another or to/from Excel with no problems.

Word 97 has operated fine on this machine for several years. I have
reinstalled Windows 98SE, and Office 97, ran all the service packs and
updates and still get these errors.

I am using Win98SE, with all patches, and IE 6.0.2800.1106

What may be causing this?
