ntuser.dat solution

R

ricardo

I have worked out why ntuser.dat is showing up and not hidden. I
installed the Nero 6.6.0.6 updates to Nero 6.6.0.0 and Nero uses the
file type dat for its Media Player, so Nero has caused the problem here.
I don't know how to change the ntuser.dat back into a system file.
Anyone know how?
Regards
ricardo

ntuser.dat that is showing up as a Nero dat file.

Only ntuser.dat or all the .dat files?

What are your settings via: Windows Explorer/Tools/Folder Options/Show
hidden files, etc.?

Added info:
http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=ntuser.dat+is+showing+up+and+not+hidden&btnG=Google+Search
All settings are for hidden files to be hidden and protected operating
system files to be protected. It is only ntuser.dat that is showing up
as a Nero dat file.

Ricardo,

In a fresh XP installation, .dat files are not associated with any application.

Open Regedit.exe and navigate to:

HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.dat

*Backup the key to a REG file*

In the right-pane, right-click (default) and click Delete.

Click "Yes" when you receive this confirmation.

Confirm Value Delete

Are you sure you want to delete this value?

Yes No

Sorry last post incorrect.
All dat files are showing up as Nero media player files.

Worked a treat Ramesh. Thanks for the help.
