ntldr missing and wont let me repair

I am having a problem booting a machine using xp windows …..The file missing
is ntldr etc .asking to restart all the time
I have followed the recovery console on the XP windows cd…but kept getting a
message saying there is no floppy disk or cd in the drive….I have map the pc
and its telling me that “d†is now my cdrom drive with the xp windows disk in
Can any one explain to me how to get around this problem ?

Can u simply reinstall xp windows start over the old copy and how would you
do this?

Your post is a little confusing. Here is why:
- You write "I have followed the recovery console on the XP windows cd".
What does this mean? Did you boot into the Recovery Console?
- You write "I have map the pc". What does this mean?
- Can you actually boot from your WinXP CD?
- If you can't, did you instruct the BIOS to make the CD drive your
first boot device?
- What is the recent history of this machine?
- Do you want to repair your machine or do you want to reload Windows
from scratch?

From a post by the late Alex Nichol, MVP:

Set the BIOS to boot CD before Hard Disk. Boot the XP CD and, instead
of Setup, take the immediate R for Repair. Assume any password
requested is blank, and TAB over.
Assuming this sees the CD as D (likely) give:

COPY D:\i386\ntldr C:\
COPY D:\i386\ntdetec C:\
(a file that may also be missing)
then rebuild the boot configuration boot.ini file by
Attrib -H -R -S C:\boot.ini
(if not found skip the next line)
DEL C:\boot.ini
BootCfg /Rebuild

Note: Tpe in the password for the built in Administrator account if you
assigned one otherwise, as this post indicates, assume it's blank.

I have a dual boot system. The boot drive is xp pro on c:. No problem with
that. The second partion os xp pro x64 on e: which gives me an "ntldr
corrupt or missing".

How would I fix this?

yes..thats my problem...i can get the pc to boot off the cd rom with xp
windows disk in it......but when i go to copy the file from the cd rom it
says there no cd in the drive to copy from............i am lost over why
any suggestions would help thanks

have placed the xp windows disk in cd rom drive and set bios to boot from cd
rom
Booted up and when into recovery mode
Started a Repair
Black screen came up
Typed in c:\map to find my cdrom drive as I have 2 of these on this machine
Screen showed
A:
D: cd rom drive
E: cd rom drive

E:\ told me after typing in dir that it was the windows disk in
I then typed
COPY e:\i386\ntldr C:\
The answer I now get is
There is no floppy or cd in the drive

Can some one please advise what I am doing wrong
