"ntldr is missing" - Bcupdate2 Utility

A

Al Conte

Hi,

MS Knowledge Base Article 320397 refers to the problem I
am experiencing that prevents my XP computer from booting
up. It says: "To resolve this problem, contact Microsoft
Product Support Services to obtain the "Bcupdate2"
Utility. I am unable to obtain a phone number for
Microsoft to request this utility. Does anyone online have
it? Could you e-mail it to me or tell me how to obtain it
from the bastian?

Thanks for any help.

Hey Al,

That article refers to windows 2000, I suppose it might be relevant, but are
you sure ntldr didn;t get deleted by accident, or perhaps you had 2 hard
disks in the system and have removed one, and the one you removed had ntldr
on it, just a guess. If you install several operating systems over a number
of disks, there is normally only one copy of ntldr ntdetect.com and boot.ini
per system.

Have you tried booting the windows xp release cd and going into the recovery
console to have a look at the disk.
YOu can also run chkdsk from the recovery console, incase its an ntfs
corruption issue.
