NTFS folder permissions

I just got a new computer that has the NTFS file system installed in Win XP
Media Center 2005 Edition.

I want to modify the permissions for my shared files/folders. The problem is
that the security tab under preferences does not appear, and therefore I
cannot change the permissions.

How do I modify the permissions?
Or how do I view the folder security tab (under preferences)?

Thanks,
Jonathan
