NTFRS.exe

Does anyone know where I can download the latest ntfrs.exe
version besides the on that comes with W2k SP4? I'm
having problems with Excel files being renamed when
replication takes place with a Windows 2003 server.

Below are the latest hotfixes for FRS in W2K and W2K3.

Windows 2000 Server
We recommend that you install one of the following:

a.. Windows 2000 Server with SP3 and the post-Service Pack 3 release of Ntfrs.exe, described in article 815473, "File Replication Service Does Not Log Errors on Sharing Violations" at http://support.microsoft.com/?id=815473.
b.. Windows 2000 Server with SP4.
Windows Server 2003
Windows Server 2003 and the pre-Service Pack 1 release of Ntfrs.exe as described in article 823230, "Issues That Are Fixed in the Pre-Service Pack 1 Release of Ntfrs.exe" at http://support.microsoft.com/?id=823230.

There's no link for the hotfix for Windows 2003 on that KB
article. Do you know if there is a hotfix for Windows
2000 post SP4?

815473 is post-SP4 for W2K.
811370 is the post-SP3 hotfix that was rolled into SP4, and 811370 fixes an
Excel issue, but you say you are still seeing the issue w/SP4?

823230 is the pre-SP1 hotfix for W2K3. Also, I believe you need to call PSS
to obtain these hotfixes.

I have the SP4 installed so the post sp3 hotfix shouldn't
matter but I'm still having Excel files being renamed
during replication. Could it be the fact that one is
Windows 2000 and the other Windows 2003?

I don't think so, but I need to investigate this a bit more to find out if
there are any post-SP4 Excel/FRS issues.

Everything I've seen indicates this was fixed in 811370 for W2K. If you have
SP4, I assume this fix is there, too. Just to be sure, can you provide the
file size,, date, and version number of the following files?

Ntfrs.exe
Ntfrsapi.dll

Ntfrsprf.dll

I am having this same issue. It seems to be occurring only with exce
files that are in a replicating dfs (hosted on a windows 2000 sp4 box
and also with excel files (in a non-replicating DFS) that are shared.

*I don't think so, but I need to investigate this a bit more to fin
out if
there are any post-SP4 Excel/FRS issues.

If it's happening outside of an FRS replica tree, then it is likely an Excel
issue. SP4 does contain an FRS fix for an Excel issue, so if you are still
seeing this problem with FRS in SP4 I suggest talking to MS Product Support.
