Can anyone save me skin?

I put my Windows XP Professional machine on standby and
returned to it and it had to be restarted by pressing the
reset button on the front of the machine.
The error message I get is:

c0000221 unknown hard error \systemroot\system32\ntdll.dll

I have obtained a copy of this file from my other WinME
machine, but I am unsure how to copy this file to the
appropriate directory if I cannot get into Windows.

How do i get the file from the A:\ and into
\systemroot\system32\ntdll.dll

Can someone email me back or post a response.

My tel is: 07811574203 in Great Britain.

Thanks in advance.

There are a few possible fixes for you here, so we'll go
in order of best to worst:)

1. Boot off your XP cd. When you see the option to
either Install or Repair using recovery console, choose R
for the console. After you get in, you will be at a
prompt (C:\Windows) that looks alot like DOS. Change to
your cd drive (if it is D, then just type d: and hit
enter). Then type CD I386. Now one more type for you:
Copy NTDLL.DLL c:\windows\system32\ntdll.dll
If you get asked to overwrite it, say yes.

If that does not do it, you have two more options.

Registry hive replacement or repair install. Now a
repair install is easier, but if it does not work, then
the hive replacement cannot be done. So, hives first:)

You will probably want to print this out to make it
easier to follow:
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;
[LN];307545

Lastly, if that fails, onto the repair install. Boot
from the cd, when you see the options mentioned above do
NOT choose the same one, choose to install. You will get
an option a bit later to Repair XP.

First - do NOT, repeat NOT try to mix files from an ME system into XP.
They are entirely different code bases.

Set the BIOS to boot CD before Hard Disk. Boot the XP CD and, instead
of Setup, take the immediate R for Repair. Assume any password
requested is blank, and TAB over. Assuming your CD drive is E:, and
that you have windows installed in C:\Windows (adjust if not), Give

COPY E:\i386\ntdll.dll C:\Windows\system32\ntdll.dll
