Nt 4.0 Workstation and Win2K Advanced Server

Help!

I bet this has been asked many time before, but a search just doesn't do
it.

I have a stand alone server for a specific application that I need to add
several workstations to. I've set the server up with it's own Domain so I
can use Domain level security features. Active directory is running, but
not used. Server is running in mixed mode as the W/S are XP SP1 and NT4.0
SP6a. Both types of W/S add to the domain just fine, and I get the
'Welcome' message. The XP machine go on and authenticate to the domain, but
the NT machines do not. I get the "The System cannot log you on to this
domain because the systems computer account in it's primary domain is
missing or the password on that account is incorrect." error message.

I have played with the security of the computer account to add the group
"Pre Win2K Compatible" group and gave it full control. No help there.

Can someone point me to a reference on how to fully add these NT machines
to the Win2K server domain. My head hurts...

Thanks in advance.

Jim

What will normally fix this error is if you remove the NT workstation from
the domain and put it in a workgroup. Then delete the computer account from
AD and rejoin the workstation to the domain.

This is an old NT domain trick as well. We've had to do it when we lose SAM
sync between the W/S and the domain. We've tried in this case many times
unsuccessfully.

Thanks to those who offered help or are scratching their heads as well.

I resolved it myself by removing AD and reinstalling (dcpromo). Just one of
those things. Not a bug, but a feature!
