Novell - Office XP Wrong Drive Selected when Save As on Novell Network

Tony H

Does any one know the solution to this problem - has
Microsoft released a fix for it. I have found no
solutions.

It does appear to be an Office XP issue when working on a
Novell Environment - my particular issues just started on
March 1st 2003. The XP Workstations have been installed
and in use for the past year but the problem of Save As
and wrong drive selected just started. No network changes
have been made.

Please provide any feedback or support would be great!
Thanks - Tony

When saving Office XP document, the wrong drive is
selected.

When attempting to save a file in a Microsoft Office XP
application, such as Word 2002, the application will
select the wrong drive to save the file on.

Novell Client 4.9 for Windows NT/2000/XP
Microsoft Office XP

This problem occurs even when the Novell Client for
Windows NT/2000/XP is not installed and is,therefore a
Microsoft Office XP product defect.

You've had this problem for an entire year?

My network experience is limited to NT4.0, but in general, XL resides on the
individual machines, while the data *may* be stored on the network drive, so
as to be accessible to all machines which have access to that network drive.

That being said, each machine *can* be tied (directed) to the network drive
so that XL will *automatically* "open to" or "save as" to a pre-determined
folder (file location) on the network.

On one of the "offending" machines, go to:
<Tools> <Options> <General> tab,
And see what path is entered in:
"Default File Location".

This should point to the file on the network drive that you have chosen to
contain your data for *this machine*.

It should be noted that not all machines should *necessarily* point to the
same network folder.
For example, accounting, sales, and production may (should) have their own
separate "Default File Location" on the network drive.

Also remember, that if a file is opened or saved to a different location
other then the default one, in XP, (unlike XL97, thank God) that new
location will become the default for the remainder of the XL session, or
until another location is used.
