Novell Client on XP Machine

Ann

It seems that when I setup a new Windows XP machine it is really fast until
I put on the Novell Client and then things begin to run slower. Does anyone
know of any issues the the Novell Client and is there anything I can do to
resolve this issue. Thanks!

Are you using the latest version of the Novell client?
I haven't used it in years, but used to have TONS of problems with it on
Win9x/NT....

Use the latest version (4.90sp1), never use Typical install option, use
Custom and select only the protocol(s) your server(s) uses; IP only or
IPX only, only if you need to connect to both IP and IPX servers or are
in a transition from IPX to IP use IP and IPX.

If the MicroSoft client service for Novell networks was installed prior
to you installing the Novell client then you've got a hybrid of both (a
bug in the MS client does not allow the Novell client to completely
remove it when it's installed). If this is the case, remove the Novell
client, reboot, install the MicroSoft client service for Novell
networks, reboot, remove the MicroSoft client service for Novell
networks, reboot, install the Novell client. This ensures that the MS
client is completely removed prior to installing the Novell client.

There are other reg tweaks and network settings that can be implemented
to improve network performance in a Novell environment (which will
improve general performance) but that are dependant on the particulars
of the Novell network in use. Check out this site:
