Norton Internet Security

I recently purchased, downloaded, and installed Norton
Internet Security, however the product is not working
properly at all. Upon restart I got a runtime error, and
since then it will not even let me go into the supervisor
tab to change the settings. Furthermore, I cannot access
websites that require a password such as my hotmail
account and my online banking. Symantec has been no help
at all. I've tried changing my internet setting on IE6
and I've eventried restoring them all to default, but I
still can't access these sites. Any advice other than
uninstalling Norton? If I uninstall it I lose it for
good, which is a waste of $50.

The Norton/run time problem I can't help with (Norton's
pretty much been OK for me) but your problem with getting
into secure sites may be unrelated to that & be the
problem I had.

I fiddled with security settings for days. The source of
the problem was my IE "cipher strength." It needs to be
128 bits, mine = 0. You can check yours by opening IE &
going to Help/About IE.

If yours also is 0, you need to get the 128 bit security
update from the MS download center. You don't mention
which OS you have. There are specific instructions &
downloads for everything except XP. XP may refuse to
install the offered "latest version of IE." What worked
for me, & maybe will for you too, was to download &
install XP Service Pack 1a. It took 6 hours but worth
it. If you already have SP1a or SP1, this won't help,
but if you don't... Good luck.
