SOS: Using IE, can'not login to passworded sites

Please help,
After uninstalling Norton Internet Security, my IE cannot open page which
require password. I've tried to log into Yahoo Mail, Friendtser, Hotmail and
other websites by filling the right user ID and password. But after moments,
it back to the same page without any error mesages.
I guest, it has something to do with firewall setting or internet setting.
Anyone can help me please... I am urgently need your solution. SOS

Windows version?

Norton Internet Security (NIS) includes Norton AntiVirus (NAV): With what
other anti-virus applicatio have you replaced NAV?

I did not replace the NAV, it is still there. I only uninstalled the NIS and
Norton Sytem Works (NSW). Windows version is Windows XP Professional Service
Pack 2

Did you turn on the Windows Firewall or some other firewall?

What version of NAV is installed, please? Is/was it bundled with NIS or NSW
or a standalone version? If standalone, what versions of NIS and NSW were
installed?
