Norton Internet Security 2007

I don't know if this the proper forum but I didn't know where else to turn.
I recently installed Norton's Internet Security 2007 and ever since the
performance of my machine has gone down the drain. It literally takes over
10 minutes to boot up. It's way too coincidental that this performance
problem began after installing this software. Does anyone have an idea what
Norton might be doing that's causing this bogged down performance?
Thanks

Norton and McAfee have been apps to avoid for years. That's just the
beginning of your problems. You will be better off trying to uninstall it
which is next to impossible to get rid of all of it., and don't try it
again. Plenty of free apps work better or try something like Trend Micro
PC-cillin Internet Security and there are others which have stood the test
of time. Search for and read user reviews before buying/using software.

Norton's a well-known resource hog. What are the specs on your PC (CPU,
RAM, etc.)?

For customer opinions, see:

(Average rating: 3.9 out of 10)

My guess is that the automatic scan on startup and the Automatic Updates
are slowing you down the most. Perhaps you can configure it not to do
these things (just make sure to manually do them!).

Are you able to get a refund? There are better, less bloated programs
available--many free.

Oh and if you get in a fix and are in a panic and need to use System
Restore just remember to look up this Symantec Knowledge Base Article
before you do:
http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT/sharedtech.nsf/pfdocs/2005113009323013

It's like finding you need to remember a 20 digit code for the toilet
door lock when you are desperate!

Hope this helps.

I installed NIS 2007 and it works fine.
It has been redesigned and you can tell it when open up the program.
It opens in about 3 or 4 secs.
As for slowing down your system, I can use my computer in about 30 secs
after turning on the power.
That is also with spy sweeper booting up at the beginning and scanning the
system for spyware.
It seems that spy sweeper takes longer to scan my system than it takes
Norton to do its job at the beginning.
Without spy sweeper, I would say that I can use my computer in about 20
secs.
I don't use the automatic windows update either and I have turned off the
spyware feature in NIS 2007.
I am using a Pentium 4 (2.66 mhz) with 512 megs of rd-ram memory.
On the other hand, my son has a laptop with a centrino chip and 1 gb ram, it
takes 5 or 6 minutes to boot up.
Why?? He has downloaded programs such as google toolbars, etc and it takes
time to open all the extra programs he has downloaded and installed.
P.S. Be sure to go to the SARC site and download the add-on pack for NIS
2007 if you need those features.
It is free.
Just a thought!!!!!

Well, lets just say that Peter Norton should sue Symantec for demation of
character.

I used Norton products back when he actually wrote them and continued to use
them after Symantec took over up until 2002.

After then, excuse my language as I don't think Symantec/Norton products
warrant writing out an entire paragraph, but simply:

"Symantec/Norton products are bloated and intrusive shit."

Save your peace of mind, even if it means cutting a loss, by looking for
alternatives...

If you installed this software, you need to take the time to learn all of the options that are available to set it up properly.

It's likely that Norton is set to scan the entire hard drive every time you start the computer. You need to disable this option.

Uninstall it, and give the package to somebody you do not like.. having
uninstalled it, set the Windows Firewall to enabled, and then download and
run AVG free anti-virus and Zonealarm firewall..

if you want, you could just run with AVG free and the Windows Firewall..
then download SpywareBlaster and run it..
