If the uninstall-tool won't work, you're basically down to a hand-picking
operation, removing folders from Program Files and registry keys from HKLM,
or else reinstalling Windows from scratch.

The other thing might be worth trying it to attempt to reinstall it, then
uninstall. Often it won't install though, saying you need to uninstall
first... :-/

There are only two things worse than finding Norton on a new computer. One
is finding AOL. The other is finding that it won't uninstall.

Hello,
You should go to Norton web site & look for the removal tool according to
your Norton AV rev.

Alayn91, read the positngs, mf tried this already in his first posting ;-).

Norton is deeply enbedded in your system, and it seems you have gone through
all the options.

I recommend an immediate backup and a clean reinstall. Only than you can
besure that a newly installed AV product is doing 100% its job and you can
rely on it. A botch job is a risky business.

Noton is notorious for this problem. You will need to go to the Norton site
and get a phone number to the tech department. When you speak with a person,
you will have to INSIST on the "full" removal tool, not the partial removal
tool they hand out. Some lesser businesses who use poor business practices
use multiple "tools" for removal of their software products. They claim this
makes it "easier" for customers, when in fact it just wrecks havoc on systems
when a consumer does not want a "trail" software program which came
pre-installed as a bundled software program in new computers. If you insist
on the FULL Removal tool they have to provide it to you. Download and run the
program. It should pop up a bunch of files onto your desktop, which will be
gone when you reboot your system. Norton is the worse of the bunch, McAfee is
much better when asking for the Full Removal Tool. Please don't mess with
manual removal of software from the system or get into the Registry unless
you are a very experianced user. It can crash your system and make it
completely inoperable. Good luck and have a nice day.

This has been typical Norton behavior ever since Symantec took over Norton.

Norton has the bad habit of placing files all over your computer and to
remove it you need to do a manual uninstall.

Firstly use add/remove to see if you can remove the entry. Don't worry that
it won't uninstall at that point.

Then go to Windows Explorer and start manually searching for norton and/or
Symantec files. Then simply delete them. Use the search feature for both the
words "Norton" and "Symantec.

After all this don't forget to uninstall "Live update" (I'm assuming you
don't have any other of their programs on the puter).

Finally defragment the disk and run a good Registry cleaner. Be sure you
backup the registry before beginning that. It is time consuming but well
worth it to get rid of this monster.

There are now so many other programs, some that are free, that do the jobs
Norton used to do so well.

Norton doesn't much care about home users and gives us short shrift.

Go slow and carefully. Good luck.

Respect to Bullwinkle for all he had to contribute regarding Norton. It is
all too true and it saddens me to say such a huge corperation finds a need to
resort to such underhanded tactics. However, there IS a complete removal tool
which will fully remove Norton from any system, I have used it myself
recently. You have to insist on the full removal tool, but when you do,
Norton HAS to give it to consumer's who wish to remove their product off
their systems. With that said, I strongly discourage any except the most
experianced users from attempting to manually remove a software program such
as a Security Suite from systems. I also strongly reccomend not touching the
Registry even if you back it up, unless, again, the user is very experianced.
Contact Norton and demand the full removal tool and run it on your system. It
will pop up files onto your desktop, but once you reboot they will be gone.
Good luck and have a nice evening.

I agree with you but Symantec is not much concerned with helping it's
customers.
