Noisy Fan

M

Mike

I am looking for guidance/suggestions on what to do.
I have a noisy fan, sometimes it vibrates, sometimes it sounds like a motor
bike and sometimes it's quiet,
Can this cause any problems, do I need to get it repaired or do fans end up
being noisy (had the system nearly 2 years now).

System is TIME AMD XP 1900+ with 2x80gb hard drives & 512 mb RAM.

Many thanks.

Take the fan out and add a drop or two of WD40. I just did that to one of
my fans, and now it is silent as a sleeping puppy!

Sounds like a harware problem, I would replace the fan.
It's a very simple process, to get it and replace it, if
it goes out you will have problems..

for the price of fans, just replace it, if it's getting
noisy and it's 2 years old, then it's got a problem, it's
probably tired and VERY full of dust, just take the fan
out and replace it with a new one, no need for oil (wd-40
will cost more than a new fan) no need for worry, no
hassle, just take the fan out and put a new one in,
problem solved!

hope this helps you sort out your problem

Try cleaning the fan blades. They are so light that a tiny amount of built
up crud can throw the fan out of balance. I use cotton swabs and alcohol.

Depends on the level of noise. If it's very noisy then the ball bearings
might be shot and you need to replace it.
If it's just a little noisy then take the other good advice of putting a
little WD40 on the fan.
