Noisy CPU Fan On Dell 8250 driving me MAD!

My CPU fan makes a loud high pitched whine that is driving me mad. It gets
worse when I play games too, as my new 9800 pro undoubedly raises the
temperature of the case. Would swapping this fan out do me any good? I want
it to be quiet! The fan that is in there now is a JMC/DATECH.

how dirty is the cpu HSF? is your case exhausted through a secondary
case fan? you can change out the cpu HSF, but has you say the higher
the rpms, the higher pitch the whine. for me that's been an
accumulation of debris.

I just went through a CPU fan change and got one that had 33DB rating. That
was way too loud and a whiner. So the smaller the number the better.
Check out http://www.startech.com/ . I have one of theirs in now and its
really quiet and it was easy to change. Match it up to your current fan size
and make sure the replacement has a connector in place for the power supply.

Larger fans can put out the same amount of air at slower speeds so they can
be quieter.
What size is your fan? Usually 60mm or 70mm for stock CPU fans.
You can get adaptors for these to put a larger 80mm fan (the 70mm adaptor is
harder to find) and a speed switch to slow the fan down.
