No video on playback of an imported MPEG-2 video file from Nero Vi

I created an MPEG-2(DVD format) video using Nero Vision Express 3. I imported
the file into Windows Movie Maker 2.1 and it only plays back the audio. The
video is a blank screen. Does Windows Movie Maker 2.1 have the ability to
properly import MPEG-2 video files? Please help. Thanks.

Providing you have DVD Decoding software such as PowerDVD or WinDVD, yes.

Theres nothing wrong with the original MPEG. It plays just fine using Nero
Vision Express 3's player. And it plays just fine using Windows Media Player
10. There is nothing wrong with the video itself.

MPEG-2 files, even with codecs installed on your system, just don't work
well enough in Movie Maker to depend on them during the editing process...
it's best to convert them to AVI files and use those as the source files...

See the Importing Source Files > Video > MPEG-2 and Discs pages of my
website..

If you made the discs yourself and still have the input video files, they
might work easier and better.

Cari, this is not correct. Windows Movie Maker does not support MPEG2 at
all. It is not even in the list of formats supported:
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;308464

Furthermore, MPEG2 is not the ideal format for editing anyway. The
compression scheme used by MPEG2 makes the video optimized for viewing...
whereby all extra info is discarded. Any minor editing such as
brightening/contrast adjustment results in artifacts.
