No System sounds

Hi,'I've installed XP unto 3 different boxes and none of them have
system sounds. In Control panel "sounds" it says that there is no sound
card. BUT I now it has one because music on a CD plays just fine.
Any ideas?
thanks.

Ron, you may have to reinstall the Sound drivers for XP. Depending on
what sound cards you have or if you have integrated sound built into the
Motherboard. Go to the manufacturers websites. If you don't know what you
have here is a
very good System Info tool http://www.majorgeeks.com/download181.html
Aida32.

Well, I used 3 different XP install disks, one was Home, the other was
Pro w/o any SP's, and the other was XP w/SP2.
The first two had running OS's on them that had crashed. And the sounds
where working ok. the last one was a clean/new install. with and w/o
integrated sound board.

I have gone to the mfg of the sound cards for drivers and they are
installed. Still no sys sound.

About to pull my hair out and there isn't much left.
