Problem with Windows Sounds

F

Fred Rogers

The sounds associated with windows xp functions don't seem to want to work
on my computer. My sounds operate properly otherwise--if I put a music cd
in the tray it plays fine. Sounds associated with other programs work fine.
Volume controls are all ok. Opening sounds & audio devices on the control
panel shows no problems--the assigned sounds to windows start and shutdown,
for instance, test ok. I have tried all the suggestions on kellys
korner--still no sounds.

Can anyone think of a fix? Thanks.

Have you scanned for viruses/malware? Have you recently added hardware or
software including driver updates from windows update? Have you used direct
X diagnostics program to test sound? Start > run > type dxdiag

Ignore what isn't relevant to your problem. I like the idea of unistalling
all the sound drivers, rebooting and letting windows install what you need.
But first look for conflicts as described in the article.
