No Sound Events (still) + Keyboard Probs

OK, still trying to get any answer to this problem. No sound events or
system sounds, yet sound card works fine with all other
applications/music/games/etc. In Control Panel -> Sounds, you can not
preview any of the system sounds (i.e. the "play" button is grayed out).

As per previous post I have checked default sound device settings AND I have
done all the suggestions on the Kelly's Korner site ("Where did my sounds
go?"), still no change at all. This problem affects all users.

To recap - XP Pro SP2 with all updates installed.

Any suggestions other than repair install / full re-install?? Or is a
repair install the only solution??

ALSO, has anyone else suffered problems with the keyboard being recognised
on boot up? Sometimes when starting you can see the BIOS check the keyboard
(i.e. lights flash, no BIOS errors) but when it gets to the Windows user log
on screen you can't type in passwords - no keys work at all. If you click a
user that doesn't have a password then when Windows starts you have no
keyboard at all.. Usually a restart solves the problem but sometimes
several restarts are needed. Yes I have tried a different keyboard and
re-installs of XP but similar results. Comments????

TIA

Did you check - Sounds:

Right click my Computer and select Manage

Under Services and Applications select Services

Scroll down to Windows Audio and make sure it is set to AUTOMATIC

Yep - shows up as started. Just to check selected "restart" but made no
difference to problems.
