No sound & can't restore

I've checked the other threads and need help here. I foolishly removed the
SoundMAX program from my computer a few days ago. Now my computer tells me I
don't have a sound device and can't play anything. I get system sounds but
nothing else. I've seen the Sytem Restore fix posted on other threads, but I
didn't have system restore enabled before I erased SoundMAX. I work in an
office with other computers and was able to copy SoundMAX, the only sound
device I can find on them, to my computer, but it's icon tells me that there
is "no SoundMAX audio present".

I'm not dedicated to SoundMAX, that's just what was on it. I just want
sound so I can kick it at the office again. Please help.

I'm experiencing bad audio stutter when playing all music tracks and
internet radio. It's only started recently. I have a Soundblaster Live! 24bit
soundcard. I've tried reloading the software and updating driver. This is
weird - often, the first track I play will seem OK, but any subsequent tracks
will suffer distortion and so will the first one if I play it again! I've
gone through all the troubleshooting options. Tried to restore to an earlier
checkpoint in case it's due to conflict with some other software, but now the
computer won't allow me to carry this out! McAfee VirusScan and Firewall
installed.
Any ideas?
Thanks

You probably deleted the drivers for the soundcard. You can download them
free from the manufacturers website and install them.

I know this is a basic question, but I can never remember. Where do I find
system information like the sound card manufacturer and stuff like that?
I've never been able to when I look for it, and only find it when I'm looking
for something else.

Rightclick the My Computer icon on your desktop and click Properties.
Hardware tab>Device Manager button>scroll down to Sound, Video, etc.
and click the small + sign to open it. There you'll see your soundcard
info and drivers.
