no sound after i save a document

i don't know if i'm putting this in the right category or
not, but here goes. i listen to my internet radio during
the day at work. sometimes when i save a file (office
2000 pro), my sound will get cut off. no more sound
emitting from the speakers at all, even when i perform
regular tasks that have sounds associated with them (ie, i
don't think it's just the internet radio knocked out).
it's almost like the process of saving sometimes knocks
something else out of whack. it doesn't do this *every*
time i save though. i have not been able to find any
common link between the times it cuts off the sound and
the times it doesn't.

i can rectify this problem by rebooting, but that can be a
real hassle for a variety of reasons. what is it about
saving that could knock out my sound? can i fix this
without having to reboot? many thanks for any help or
direction anyone can provide!

You need to provide us more information.
In what application does this happen or it
occurs just by saving file in any application.

What if you manually try to play a local file in sound recorder, after this.
Does it play. Report if sound recorder gives some error message.

it happens when i save a document in either excel or word
2000 professional. i will have to wait for the next
instance to check with the sound recorder as you
suggested. it is a strange problem. no sound at all,
even ones that are ordinarily there, like the "received
email" chime in my email program. thanks for your help.
i will post back when i have some news concerning the
recorder.
