No .pst file

I am getting the following error message when trying to open Outlook 2003.
"UNABLE TO OPEN YOUR DEFAULT E-MAIL FOLDERS. THE FILE C:\DOCUMENTS &
SETTINGS\NICK JURY\LOCAL SETTINGS\APPLICATION
DATA\MICROSOFT\OUTLOOK\OUTLOOK.PST IS NOT A PERSONAL FOLDERS FILE". My .pst
file was indavertantly deleted, and I have not been able to locate any backup
file. I've tried using the Repair/Re-Install option on the install disk, and
neither option worked. I also deleted Office and re-installed it and that
didn't work. When I click on Outlook, the above message comes up and the
program doesn't open. I am desperate, as I use Outlook for my email. Please
respond. thanks.

There is no point repairing or reinstalling Office when in fact your PST
file is missing. I would try to create a new account without a PST file,
open Outlook with that new account, then create a new PST file at the
location specified in your post.

Not sure if a new account will do the trick, or if you have to create a
new profile.

Hi;
This is the first time I've used this option for solving a problem and I'm
not sure how it all works. I did post this message under another category and
the response I got was not helpful. I received no other responses to that
message, so I tried this category. If there's a better way of accomplishing
that, I'm more than willing to comply.
As far as the message I received from you, I would appreciate it if you'd
stick to the problem at hand instead of questioning why I did something I
apparently should not have done. I am looking for help to solve the problem I
listed, not to have someone wasting my time scolding me for not reading all
of the rules for posting messages.
Thanks anyway.
Nick Jury.

Hi;
Thanks for responding. I assumed that using the Repair/Re-Install options on
the install disk would both replace any existing files, or repair any files
that are not being recognized by the application. I did try to create a new
account, but I continue to get the same error message, and am still not able
to open up Outlook. I did create a .PST file in the account, but apparently
Outlook did not recognize it and responded with the same error message.
Thanks again.

Reinstall/repair does *not* create/replace .PST files; in fact neither
does a new install. Can you imagine how users would react if all their
email got lost when a reinstall/repair would replace their .PST file
with an empty one...?

The .PST file must be created by Outlook; just an empty file will not be
recognized as a valid .PST file. What version of Outlook do you use?
Maybe I could create an empty PST file and send it to you?

Use the Mail Applet in the Control Panel to create the Data File (pst) set
it as the default for delivery
If there are still problems, go back to the Mail Applet and create a New
Profile / Data File / Accounts

Hi;
Thanks again for responding. I have solved the problem. Pat you were right,
I did have to create a new profile. I had a message in to Microsoft support,
and they finally got back to me with directions on how to create a new
profile. I completed the process, and it did allow me to open up Outlook. I
still had problems sending and receiving messages, so I called my ISP (which
is SBC Communications), apparently they were just bought out by AT&T and the
POP3 and SMTP addresses were changed. Once the parameters were corrected
everything now works fine. Thanks again to you Pat, and to DL for trying to
help me out with this problem, it was greatly appreciated.
