Outlook 2002 pst folder problem

L

Laura

I have been using Outlook 2002 on Windows XP for a few years now. Last week,
I was no longer able to access Outlook. When I attempted to open the
application, I received the following error:

"Unable to open yoru default e-mail folders. The file ____/Outlook.pst is
not a personal folders file."

The Outlook.pst file exists, but I am unable to access it. I have since
created a new pst folder with a different name, and Outlook is now opening
and I am receiving new email. However, I cannot access any of my old
information - email, contacts, folders, etc.

Is there anyway to change the original Outlook.pst to make it a personal
folders file? If not, how can I retrieve my old information? I am desperately
trying to retrieve an email message.

I have absolutely no idea how this happened, as the system was operating
fine. I am not computer illiterate, but I am not Outlook saavy. Help, please!

I wonder if the old pst is over 1.87 GB. Assuming the old pst is in the
same folder as your new one, go to file, data file management, select the
new PST and click Open Folder button.
Do you see the old pst in the folder? How large is it?
